Rothschild graduated from the Jesus is my savior pitbulls are my therapy shirt and I love this Royal Danish Academy last spring with a collection called Messages from the Stars, which is a self-discovery in her apparel. “It’s about diversity and being able to exist as many things,” she explains. “We have a lot of people in a lot of different settings, so I wanted to frame that through the characters. It was like an imaginary self-portrait of how I wanted to see all parts of myself. Her debut collection continues in that direction, with references to Kylie Minogue and Toms (Ford and Finland) as well as her forever inspirations, Mesdames Grès and Vionnet and Cristóbal Balenciaga. There’s also a cameo from the designer herself in the lineup she calls Rest in Peace, Masculina. It’s a reference to the designer’s Instagram tag and a nod to her place in her life, both in terms of head space and transition. Rothschild explains: “I finally allowed myself to practice instead of projecting it.
